Press Release: Capital Pride Alliance Accepts Historic Pride Program

CAPITAL PRIDE ALLIANCE ACCEPTS HISTORIC PRIDE PROGRAM FROM WHITMAN-WALKER CLINIC

Washington , DC -- The Capital Pride Alliance is honored to have been selected by Whitman-Walker Clinic to assume ownership of the Capital Pride program and gladly accepts this extraordinary opportunity to serve as the next steward of 34 year old Capital Pride.

“This is a historic moment for the GLBT community in Washington, DC and around the Nation. After 34 years of tremendous growth, under the leadership of Whitman-Walker Clinic and many other supporting organizations, Capital Pride is ready to stand on its own and provide resources and visibility to those organizations that have helped make it a strong, proud symbol of the GLBT community in our Nation’s capital.” said Michael Lutz, President, Board of Directors-The Capital Pride Alliance.

The Capital Pride Alliance was formed by members of the current volunteer Capital Pride planning committee in response to a competitive RFP released by Whitman-Walker Clinic to find another organization to take over production of the annual Capital Pride event. The organization’s sole mission is to plan, produce, and oversee the Capital Pride program year-round.

Whitman-Walker will continue in its role as presenting sponsor for 2008, and the Alliance will assume the program after the 2008 celebration has concluded. The Alliance will continue to serve with the many talented volunteer committee members and community organizations that have helped produce Capital Pride for the past three decades. The commitment these organizations have made to Pride and their dedicated service have been essential in helping make this historic transition possible. Because of their efforts, Capital Pride is one of the most diverse and successful Pride organizations in the Country.
