Executive Summary

The Capital Pride Alliance is a recently incorporated, independent, non-profit entity established in the District of Columbia. The Capital Pride Alliance’s sole purpose is to successfully support, plan, implement, and assess the annual Capital Pride events and related activities throughout the year, beginning in 2009. Governed by a Board of Directors, the Capital Pride Alliance was established by active members of the Capital Pride Planning Committee who bring knowledge and expertise, diverse representation, and a strong commitment to ensuring a successful transition and sustained growth for Capital Pride in the years and decades ahead. Because of its roots and unique perspective, the Capital Pride Alliance is guided by the core values and beliefs of the Capital Pride Planning Committee, including: diversity; inclusivity; transparency; and accountability.

These values and beliefs animate the approach and strategies that we will undertake to ensure a successful Capital Pride. Our core priorities place an emphasis on nurturing and expanding the Community Partners Program established in 2007, building adequate and sustained funding with a focus on corporate sponsorships, conducting aggressive and targeted marketing and outreach, and providing relevant and diverse programming to respond to the needs of the entire GLBT community.

We firmly believe that Capital Pride can serve as a national model for pride celebrations. We are fully committed to ensuring that Capital Pride honors its over thirty year legacy while responding to the dynamic and diverse needs of our community.
